IRS Account Set-Up

Go to IRS website: www.irs.gov

Create an ID.me account (if you don't have one already) using your personal email address.

Confirm your email address.

• You will receive an email from ID.me with the subject "Welcome to ID.me"
• Click the "confirmation button" to confirm your email address or enter provided code on ID.me website

Secure ID.me account by adding multi-factor authentication methods provided by IRS.

Verify your identity. You have two options to choose from: you can select the self-service option or the video chat agent.

• For the self-service option, you will need a social security number, a photo ID, and take a video selfie.
• For the video chat option accepts more document types and no selfie is required, but wait times for this option may vary.

Upload photos of your ID using your phone. (Required to take a picture of your state-issued identification front and back)

Enter your Social Security number.

Review and confirm your information

Allow ID.me to share your verified identity information with the IRS

Once confirmed, you can now sign into your personal IRS online account.
